Audience Response

When the time comes, unassuming, unrehearsed
You do not question your walking towards the light
Without hesitation, without thought, just walking
You know that you know that the light is for you

When the question is asked, and you pretend to think
The truth of the moment lingers without frivolous thrill
No fireworks, no frills, no fronds, no feverish flames
Just destiny, as you know it when it comes: Will you be mine

Before the question, was the hand, held softly, then tightly
Shall we dance, shall we talk, shall we share dreams and dinners
Not always did the moon's bosom heave and haul with harmony
Pain and sorrow stamped its presence as the past was purged

Boundaries and bigotry, laid on the table, negotiated and negated
A journey of two, blows of brutal honesty, hoisting the flag of trust
At the battlefield of wretched lovers brutalized by broken bonds
To surrender to love demands devastating destruction of the self

And so the sojourn of surrender continues daily
I count the measures of breath when you give my life lift
In, out, hold... and then the surprise of you starts all over again
With every new breath, every endurance, every rest

For P, love of my life
You come, bearing my light
